Golden Era tv duos provides a different lens to look back at the legacies of eight excellent tv shows.

The current Golden Era of television came to an end this year with the conclusion of Game of Thrones. Before stepping into the next phase of the television and streaming landscape, let’s take a look back at the shows that helped usher in this era.

I decided pair up four comedy and four drama tv shows together based on their similarities. These fictional tv tandems will serves as the basis for The Intersection’s Golden Era tv coverage.

The concept is loosely based on WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge, which featured tag teams consisting of male and female partners. WWE’s version was a tournament featuring each tag team facing off.

TV Duos Format

Coverage will switch from one pairing to the next after completing a season for each duo. For the “Primetime Politicians” team, coverage of Parks & Recreation will begin with season 2 and after season 4 of The West Wing, coverage will switch to The Newsroom for its 3 season run. With Parks & Recreation, season one is easily worst season during the show’s run and only has 6 episodes compared to The West Wing’s 22 episodes in season one. Aaron Sorkin, the creator and writer of all but two episodes during his tenure, left the show after season 4 and The West Wing became a different show as a result.

Links to previews for each of the tv duos are in the table below.

Comedy Quotes

Parks & Recreation

What I hear when I’m being yelled at is people caring loudly at me.

Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler)

Scrubs

Since I was a kid, I’ve been able to sleep through anything — storms, sirens, you name it. Last night, I didn’t sleep

Dr. John “JD” Dorian (Zach Braff)

New Girl

Probably n… ok, let´s first take the Lord of the Rings references in a deep dark cave, where no one´s gonna find them ever.

Schmidt (Max Greenfield)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Jacob Peralta is my best detective. He likes putting away bad guys and he loves solving puzzles. The only puzzle he hasn’t solved is how to grow up.

Sergant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews)

Drama Quotes

The West Wing

With the clothes on their backs, they came through a storm. And those that didn’t die want a better life. And they want it here. Talk about impressive. My point is this: break’s over.

President Bartlets (Martin Sheen)

Smallville

After the accident, when my heart stopped. It was the most exhilarating two minutes of my life. I flew over Smallville, and for the first time, I didn’t see a dead end. I saw a new beginning. Thanks to you, I have a second chance. We have a future, Clark, and I don’t want anything to stand in the way of our friendship.

Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum)

Hart of Dixie

Well, if uh, you consider purgatory to be a place where neighbors take core of each other and every third Tuesday demands a parade, well, you can call it what you want, but I call it home.

George Tucker (Scott Porter)

Justified

Goddamnit woman, you only shoot people when they’re eatin’ supper?

Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins)

Which tv duo is your favorite? What are some other shows you’d like to see featured? Sound off in the comments.
