Honorable Mentions

There are nine more films that deserve acclaim from 2019 with my favorite aspect from each film provided. The order of the list is alphabetical.

  • Booksmart
    • Olivia Wilde shines in her directorial debut with a talented, but mostly unheard of cast.
  • Doctor Sleep
    • Rebecca Ferguson portrays the best female villain of the year.
  • Little Women
    • Best book-to-screen adaptation of the year.
  • Marriage Story
    • Raw performances from Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson carries this film about a marriage that’s unraveling.
  • Bombshell
    • Charlize Theron’s transformation into Megyn Kelly is transcendent.
  • Shazam!
    • It’s Big with superheroes and Zachary Levi is a perfect fit for the adult Billy Batson.
  • The Peanut Butter Falcon
    • Shia LaBeouf, Zack Gottsagen and Dakota Johnson take hold of the most heartfelt film of the year.
  • Uncut Gems
    • Best performance of Adam Sandler’s career.
  • Zombieland: Double Tap
    • Zoey Deutch elicits laughter in every scene she’s in.

2019 was truly a tremendous year for film. What were your favorite movies this year? Discuss in the comments.
