Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2 stumbles after the explosive premiere, delivering an uneven follow-up that struggles to find momentum. While John Cena and Jennifer Holland continue to anchor the show with strong performances and Tim Meadows adds welcome chaos, the episode covers little fresh ground. More troubling, James Gunn’s trademark humor lands with surprising inconsistency, leaving the comedy surprisingly flat.
Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2 Overview
After last episode’s explosive ending, Peacemaker seemed ready to push into bold new storytelling territory. Instead, Season 2 Episode 2 slows down, giving Christopher Smith time to take stock of his situation. Aside from Leota Adebayo’s faltering relationship, however, the episode struggles to find much emotional depth.
There are still highlights. Meadows injects fresh energy into the series, with his bird-blindness gag landing as the only truly successful comedic beat. The rooftop bonding scene—where Chris, Adebayo, Harcourt, Economos, and Adrian share their troubles—offers a rare moment of warmth and cohesion. Meanwhile, Eagly gets a chance to shine in a more fearsome role, defending against ARGUS agents. The CGI isn’t perfect, but the tonal shift away from comic relief makes the eagle feel more impactful.
Cena and Holland carry the dramatic weight, both conveying the brokenness of their characters beneath their hardened exteriors. Cena’s vulnerability in scenes with Adebayo and Harcourt continues his strong, appropriately stilted arc of growth, while Holland impresses with her ability to balance toughness and fragility. Danielle Brooks, despite her talent and acclaim, remains underutilized. At least this episode begins to carve out a storyline for her beyond simply propping up Chris, though she deserves much more.

When Gunn’s dialogue is firing, it sparkles with organic rhythm. Unfortunately, most of the humor this season feels forced—even the better jokes lack the effortless bite of season one. It raises the concern that Gunn, juggling so many projects, might be spreading himself too thin.
Like the premiere, Episode 2 sticks the landing with a stronger finish than its meandering setup. Chris seems ready to step into a new phase of his journey, but the series itself is still searching for its spark.

Flagg’s Vendetta in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2
Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) remains consumed by grief and rage over Peacemaker killing his son in The Suicide Squad. When Peacemaker vanishes at the end of the previous episode, Flag seizes the chance to escalate, ordering ARGUS to bring him in at all costs.
Economos gets stuck monitoring Peacemaker and is saddled with Langston Fleury (Meadows), who immediately tries to establish himself as the alpha in every exchange. The banter in the surveillance van mainly serves to highlight Fleury’s cocky, needling energy.
Fleury ups the stakes by orchestrating a raid on Peacemaker’s home. Unfortunately for him, Peacemaker is out with his old teammates. The only one holding down the fort is Eagly, who fiercely defends the house and tears through the agents in a surprisingly violent (but still cartoonish) sequence. Miraculously, everyone survives, ensuring ARGUS will be back to hound Peacemaker again.
Guilt and Shame
After briefly stepping into another dimension, Peacemaker retreats to his own world, where denial becomes his coping mechanism. Much of the episode finds him scrambling to cover up the murder of his alternate self.
Adrian arrives to help dispose of the body, though he’s still sulking over being left out of the orgy. Adebayo also tries to help differently. Peacemaker confides in her about the interdimensional portal hidden in his home. She pushes him to come clean to ARGUS, but his focus quickly shifts when he learns that Rick Flag Sr. is hunting him down. Cena does a solid job selling the regret and panic, though it strains credibility that Peacemaker seems blindsided by Flag’s vendetta now that Amanda Waller’s protection is gone.
Meanwhile, Harcourt tries to mask the bruises from her barroom beating. Despite efforts from Peacemaker and others to reach her, she shuts them out. Even during a casual group hang, she stonewalls Peacemaker’s attempts to check in. Her rejection drives him further into escapism, pushing him toward another world rather than forcing him to face the fractures in his own.
Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2 Final Thoughts
Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 2, doesn’t measure up to the other episodes in the series. Despite strong performances from Cena and Holland, as well as a few standout moments of camaraderie and chaos, the episode drags under the weight of clunky humor and repetitive emotional stakes. Gunn’s sharp writing voice peeks through occasionally, but too often the jokes misfire and the pacing stalls.
The pieces for a compelling season are still on the table. Rick Flag Sr.’s vendetta, Adebayo’s strained relationship, Harcourt’s inner struggles, and the looming threat of ARGUS all offer fertile ground. However, unless the show finds a more consistent balance of heart, humor, and momentum, Peacemaker risks losing the spark that made its first season so surprising and compelling.
